Google Play Grows Up: New Developer Policies Will Clean Up Google’s App Store - ellismandred48

Google Child's play, Google's Android app store, is hand-to-hand to eclipsing Apple's App Store in pure Numbers, but in that location's one country in which it's lacking. The former Android Market has a ton of rogue apps — including copycat games, spam, and malware.

And now, Google is looking to square away its act.

The departure between Google's and Apple's app stores is that Apple polices every app submitted to the store, often with a draconian approval serve. Google's market, then again, is a unconstrained-for-all: anyone can bow apps, and there's about no screening cognitive process. Google has been holding an eye on its store, and removing renowned malicious apps, but now we're looking for at a potential crackdown.

In a letter to developers Wednesday, Google outlined a new set of rules, which it hopes testament eliminate about of the spammy apps in the Google Play store. Developers have 30 days to comply with the new policies, or risk their app being removed from the stash awa.

The new rules are quite broad. Each Google Play apps must use Google's own payment system for downloads or in-app purchases (leave out for somatic goods and goods used up out of doors the app). To reduce copycat apps, Google says app developers shouldn't "pretend to be someone else" and may non "represent that [their] app is authorized by or produced by another company or organization if that is non the encase." Apps also should not have name calling or icons also similar to apps that ship with Humanoid.

Google also gets specific in the new rules some not transmitting viruses, worms, Trojan horses, and malware, as well arsenic nigh misleading merchandise descriptions, continual content, ratings gaming, and apps that send automated SMS and email messages. There are also bran-new rules regarding suspicious ad practices in apps: developers can no longer make ads look like system notifications or owed personal user data.

Google's fresh developer policies for the Google Play store register that the company is finally sounding to adult its app marketplace. This makes sense, since Google Frolic is now similar in size to Apple's App Store, with 600,000 apps to Malus pumila's 650,000. Level though studies show that a majority of Orchard apple tree App Store apps are ne'er downloaded, Apple undoubtedly has the upper paw when it comes to app quality. With its latest move, Google could be closing in before long.
